So yeah, I haven't posted anything recently, but plans have been progressing. I have contacted all of my friends in the various cities to confirm my exact visit dates with them. This week I've also started making reservations at B&B's and Inns along the way at points where I don't know anyone. I'm using airbnb.com for most of my reservations and so far I've had a pretty positive experience. The only place where I've had to go for a more traditional hotel is in Casper, WY. Everywhere else is people's homes, Bed & breakfasts, Inns, etc. I'm really invested in making this trip about the local environment of each location. I have decided to avoid fast food and chain restaurants as much as possible, opting for local options whenever I can.
I've also been working on my awesome planning spreadsheet. I could probably market this thing when I'm done with it. It basically figures out my route for me, and helps me track expected costs, distances, etc. I'm quite proud of it. I realize that it's a totally nerdy activity, but I can spend hours just fiddling with the macros and formulas to get it to be more and more automated. I bet I could get it to drive my car for me if I really wanted to.
Anyway, I am officially less than 100 days until I leave. It's starting to feel really real at this point. Still a ton to do before I leave, but I'm so looking forward to all of it. The planning is a significant part of the fun!
